Numbers to Remember During NaNoWriMo

Countdown to Nanowrimo: 3 days. Days in Nov. taken up by events, birthdays, holidays, visits: 8-10 days # of words to hit on remainder of the days: 2500 words/day # of days in Nov. I’ll be grumpy, proud and ornery: all of them # of minutes spent replotting whilst I’m writing: hopefully ZERO # of Raiders games to fit in during this time? 5

Imps, Chimps or Chumps?

Two days ago, I misplaced my wedding ring. To my mind, it can only be on the bathroom sink or the kitchen sink, the only two places I take it off. Yet, after tons of searching, I couldn’t find it even asking W. thrice whether she’s seen it or not. Frustrated, I go and do the dishes that I had promised to do a day before. I somehow think that the ring will magically appear under a bowl or plate. Then hours later after I finish the dishes, I go to bed sans ring. And what do I spy on…

Fuck Cancer

A couple of weeks ago, I received a text from my sister. My cousin’s wife was diagnosed with a grapefruit-sized tumor on her ovary and most likely it’s cancer. Yesterday she had a hysterectomy and it’s confirmed. I sent her the link to the blog that I maintained during W’s cancer journey and she in turn sent it to my cousin, her husband’s sister. That made me reread what I had written. I pretty much spewed everything onto that blog, then forgot about it because seriously, who wants to relive those moments? In a way, I’m glad I did spew…

Yay! Revised Prologue is done and it’s so much better!

Finished the revised prologue last night and boy, did I up the stakes. I finally realized keeping the reader in the dark about the menace-soon-to-come removed anticipation which was needed in the novel. By changing out the prologue and giving it the villian’s POV, I upped the stakes and the tension, AND I managed to do all that without having to rewrite the entire Part 1 which had been what I was contemplating to help the pacing. I’m a happy person today. Next up, at least three chapters done before next Wednesday. Why Wednesday? I’m using reddit’s fantasywriters’ check in as…

New Beginnings (Yup, Rewriting the Prologue)

Last week, I relooked at my outline and adjusted it accordingly to the changes I made. Something was off, I knew but I wasn’t sure what. After I redid the outline, I was more confused. What I have down is a good foundation with room for excitement and buildup, plus nice quiet moments. What was bugging me? Then I realized, I was building up to a climax where it would leave the readers in confusion. BUT! Just cause the characters are confused, doesn’t mean the reader should be. I started looking at it from the end of the 2nd book.…

NaNoWriMo’s Almost Here. Are You Participating?

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month – November) is about to start. I haven’t been participating the last few years but it’s a great tool so I will this year. To participate, one just has to declare the intention to write 50,000 within the month of November. This isn’t a tool for 2nd or 3rd drafts which is why I haven’t participated in the past few sessions. Since I’m working on the 1st draft of Thwarted Wills, it’s a great tool especially since I’ve got the outline worked out. Going to try out a couple of widgets here, then maybe create…

My First Reaction is to Broadcast (Anthem’s changing their Rx program)

I work as a health insurance agent during the day. I don’t like my job, but I recognize that I provide a service for others. Sometimes, I get information that I think people should know. Like what I put on my FB wall: Everyone who is on Anthem Blue Cross in California. Be an informed consumer. PLEASE BE AWARE that starting 2016, your Rx may NOT be part of the coverage. Anthem Blue Cross is rolling out what they call “Select Rx” which means the more expensive Rx WILL NOT BE covered. This is across the board for individuals and…

Curses & Blessing in Rush Hour Traffic

When I’m driving to work (strangely not when I’m coming home), I tend to think of some cars as curses and some as blessings. Some cars, when they change lanes, manage to stop their lanes. (Not really, but that’s what it seems). I call those curses and I HATE it when I’m the curse. Some cars, they get into a lane, and somehow the lane starts moving. Those are blessings. Today, I was lucky enough to be a blessing. Every lane I hopped into moved past the other three lanes. It made for such a nice drive.

Falling at 50+ Years of Age Is Hazardous!

Had a big fall last night. Was walking out to the garden and going down the porch steps when Inkling decided he *had* to be in the back yard right then. He ran under my descending left leg and I came down hard on the the bricks. Laid there for about 5 minutes not able to move. W was out in front watering and couldn’t hear my yells. All I can say is, thank goodness I had that neck problem two years ago. I’ve worked so hard on relaxing all my neck/shoulder/back muscles that I was able to lie there…

Kim Davis Fibbing about the Pope?

One of the huge teachings in the New Testament is about how believers should focus on heavenly things and let the world do what it will. This is exemplified by Jesus saying “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.” If I know this, you can bet that the Pope knows this too, which made Kim Davis and her attorney’s claim that the Pope met with her and thereby approved of her stance against gay marriages through her government job, a curious claim. Well, it seems Kim Davis and her attys fibbed…
